A Babes For Hillary Q&A with Shauna Richardson!
Babes For Hillary is excited to welcome Shauna Richardson, in San Francisco, CA, into the Babes' family with this Q & A. Shauna is an actress and writer, and is currently working with Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail. We are a big fan of her Instagram feed and awesome work she is doing with Hillary.
Babes For Hillary: What makes you a Babe For Hillary?
Shauna: I'm a Babe for Hillary because she is intelligent, sharp, dedicated, focused, sincere, progressive, and fearless. Hillary has been fighting for my rights since before I was born and has continued to do so throughout her entire career. Hillary's quest for providing women and children around the world with better lives and her fight for women's rights is incredibly inspiring. For me, she is the voice and presence that showed me it was okay to use mine. For too long women have remained silent and Hillary has been a constant guiding light for me. Her tenacity and her strength is inspiring not only to me but also to so many other people around the world.
From her early days as a young lawyer and mother to First Lady in Arkansas to First Lady of the United States to Senator of New York to Secretary of State, Hillary has always redefined every role and stood tall against every odd. Her pragmatic approach towards finding solutions is why she is the best candidate to be our next President. She never enters a role without fulfilling it completely and with her heart. She wants to help. She wants everyone to thrive. She's a daughter, a wife, a sister, a mother, a friend, a feminist, and, most importantly, she's remained true to herself despite baseless criticism and attacks. She represents all of us. And most importantly, she hears us. I couldn't be more proud to say that I'm with her today and each day.
BFH: When did you realize you were interested in this election?
Shauna: I've always been political. However, this election really stood out to me when I saw what the Republican agenda was. When we have people in our government trying to control the bodies of women and make choices for them, pass laws that discriminate those in the LGBT community, make efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and defund Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides so many women and men with safe, legal healthcare that they cannot afford otherwise, is when you know it's time to stand up and say enough.
We can't lose the gains we've made in the last eight years (or over the last few DECADES). The year is 2016 and we have basic human rights that are being jeopardized. We can't allow ourselves to sit idly by and watch it happen. We are a country that is about equal opportunity, a country that is about tolerance, and one that is in desperate need of a large dose of love and kindness. We aren't about bullying, instilling fear, and judgment. So much is at stake in this election and we have to collectively come together and reject these awful proposals and efforts.
BFH: Is there a unique "Hillary" experience would you like to share?
Shauna: I had the pleasure of meeting Hillary a few times on the campaign trail. I remember being so nervous. As I walked up she smiled at me and I somehow managed to ask, "Hillary, can I have a hug?" And without hesitation she said, "Yes, of course!" She laughed at me in a sweet way and THANKED me. I was like, "Wait, what? No...thank YOU." She was so warm and wonderful. And that's the thing about Hillary: she is so thankful for all of the hard work that everyone has put into this incredible journey. So very thankful. It's beautiful to see and to see it up close.
