Thank you, Carole King
I was beyond grateful to meet legendary singer-songwriter, Carole King, when she visited Hillary's phone bank at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) building in Lower Manhattan. As a fan of hers since my childhood (thank you, Mom, for raising me on King's award winning album Tapestry), I have had two opportunities in my life to see her. In 2010, I photographed her performing live with James Taylor. So, when I learned King would be visiting us at the phone bank, I printed one of my original photographs, and King kindly signed it, "For Deb", for my mom.
Of course Carole didn't come by just to make our dreams come true. We gathered around as she took a moment to thank teachers for what they do. She shared that when she was much younger, she always wanted to be a teacher, but her music career took her in another direction. She discussed her volunteer work she did with Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004, and the importance of phone banking during this historic election of 2016.
